Emission Test Methods

Promulgated Test Methods
CFR promulgated test methods have been published in the Federal Register as final rules. This site provides downloadable official, legal Federal Register Versions.

Proposed Test Methods
Federal Register proposed test methods have been published in the Federal Register as proposed rules, but have not yet been promulgated.

Approved Alternative Test Methods
These methods are approved alternatives to the methods required by 40 CFR Parts 60, 61 and 63. As such, they may be used to determine compliance with the requirements of these Parts without further EPA approval.

Conditional Test Methods
These methods are potentially subject to change based on the review of additional validation studies or on public comment as a part of adoption as a Federal test method.

Preliminary Test Methods
The methods in this category are not likely to be technically supported by EPA staff and are more likely to change based on the review of additional validation studies or on public comment prior to adoption as a Federal reference method.

Title 40 CFR Electronic Documents
