Biographies

Joseph J. Macak III
President and Principal Consultant

Joe is an internationally respected consultant in the power generation industry. As MPE's President and Principal Consultant, he provides overall business direction, oversees all consulting activities and plays an active role in ongoing client projects.

Since 1978 Joe has been actively involved with environmental engineering and compliance. For 17 years he worked in the power generation industry. Over the years he has authored 28 technical papers, and served as the Chairman of the International Gas Turbine Institute, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Committee. Joe currently oversees all consulting activities related to environmental compliance management, permitting, predictive emissions monitoring, and site assessments.

Joe received his B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Roman T. Plichta, PhD
Manager, Environmental Consulting and
Principal Engineering Consultant

Roman provides leadership and guidance for the environmental permitting group.  Prior to joining MPE in 2002, Roman spent 22 years with Amoco Oil Company in various capacities, including research & development, process design engineering, refinery operations, technical training, international business development, and environment, health & safety.  In addition, he worked as a management consultant in an organizational performance management consulting company. 

His recent focus has been new construction and operating permits (Title V and FESOP) as well as various compliance-related services for manufacturing clients in the composite lumber product, road asphalt, metal surface coating, organic chemical, foam and plastic disposable product, asphalt roofing, and fossil-fuel electric generating industries. 

Roman has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and an MS in Engineering Management from the University of Detroit.

Britt E. Wenzel
Manager, Environmental Compliance Management

Britt oversees MPE's Environmental Compliance Management services. He delivers expertise in compliance management and assessment, and also represents clients in regulatory negotiations.

An MPE team member since 1993, Britt has over 15 years of environmental industry experience. He performs environmental air, water, and waste compliance management services. His work includes environmental reporting, permitting, and planning for the steel, electrical generation, transportation, food, printing, and wood coating industries. He also performs wetland assessments, delineations, and mitigation planning, and provides expert technical representation for clients in negotiation with regulatory agencies.

Britt is a certified Registered Environmental Manager. He earned his BS in Biological Sciences from Northern Illinois University.

Kimberley M. Janson, PG
Manager, Environmental Assessments and Licensed Professional Geologist

Kim provides leadership and technical guidance for the environmental assessment group. Her expertise and technical ability help clients work with regulators and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and obtain closure on projects.

Kim became an MPE team member in 2000 and has over 10 years of environmental assessment experience. She conducts Phase I, subsurface soil and groundwater investigations, underground storage tank removals, remediation, and fate and transport modeling services. Her clients include attorneys, manufacturers, power generation facilities, financial institutions, developers, government entities, and realtors.

Kim earned her B.S. in Geology from the University of Northern Iowa and her M.S. in Earth Science with an emphasis on hydrogeology from Northeastern Illinois University.
